There are several reasons for a water dispenser in a kitchen refrigerator to stop working. Again, some reasons could sound a little strange. Refrigerator Installation Issues

You just bought a brand new refrigerator with a water dispenser, but it is broken. The water dispenser has to be connected to the home’s water line. That might be the issue.

If the brand new refrigerator is replacing an old refrigerator that did not have a water dispenser or ice maker, there’s a possibility that you do not have a functioning water line near this area of the kitchen. Most of the time a water line is typically run from under a home either in a basement or crawl space. You can buy this type of water line at almost any hardware store and they are very easy for even the average homeowner to install. Usually they have come with a water shut-off valve, which is necessary so that if you ever need to move the refrigerator, you can turn off the water.

Filter Issues

On some of the household models, there are various filters. These filters can “expire”, become clogged or freeze. All of the filters are dependent on the model and brand of refrigerator. If your filter is blocked it can cause slow filling or no flowing. It is suggested that your filter be changed every 6 months. Replacing filters can be challenging. One recommendation is to fill the filter with water before installing it.
